White River/Beaver Lake Arkansas: Great favorite paddle on higher water

Kayaking/Canoeing
May 10, 2017 2:03 PM
Duration (Total) 2h 9m 35s , Distance 5.6 mi

I had a couple of hours and an opportunity at one of my favorite spots to do a quick flatwater trip. Water was about 6 foot higher than when I kayaked this a few months ago- The bend at the end with the run continues to change each time we have massive floods... Rock bank is always moving- I love this time of the year – all the beautiful song birds are out- saw goldfinch and bluebird as well as the normal cast of characters of kingfishers and great blue heron's... this time of the year is amazing!

Buffalo River, Arkansas: Kayaking the Hwy 14 Bridge to Shipps Ferry (White River) September 26th, 2015

This was an incredible trip my brother and I had been planning for quite some time....It was his first major trip on the Buffalo, and it did not disappoint!  Eagles, Osprey, River Otters, Hogs, and a confrontation with a really bad strainer has both of us swimming towards the end....lost my DeLormme PN-60 as well as a nice rod...sometimes the river has a price.  The blood moon eclipse the second night was incredible!
The White River was really, really rolling- we hit it at the confluence and paddled about 5 miles to the exit ramp- really cold and fast (and dangerous!)

Fly Fishing White River, Arkansas- Beaver Tailwaters- great time landing Arkansas rainbow trouts!

This is not the normal kayak fishing post- we have more of those coming to you this year.  Sometimes, on occasion, we like to go ahead and grab the waders and dust off the fly rods for some trout fishing action.  This was a great day to hit the beaver tailwaters in April.  We landed over (10) trout in a 3-4 hour period.  The weather was excellent, and it was a great confidence builder for myself, considering I have not thrown a fly in a couple of years.

I have already decided that I plan on incorporating the fly rod in our kayak fishing adventures.

Fish ON!

White River, Washington County, Arkansas June 4th, 2011: Great 6 mile kayak trip on the White River

Upper White River, 6.5 mile Kayak paddling trip

Really enjoyed my time on the White River, just south of Beaver Lake in Arkansas.  This is a very docile river, at least at this stage.  Lake is still high and so is the river- high and slow.  There were some pretty incredible back bay type areas, chock full of White egrets and Blue Herons, as well as an abundance of Kingfishers.
I fished it as well in preparation for the kayak fishing tournament I entered for the next day.  On the map where it ends, there was a really nice, fast run.  If I was to continue on, I would probably portage it to the other side.  Instead, I parked on a rock bank and swam for a spell in the river.  That felt good considering it was in the mid 90's.   I will be coming back again to paddle and fish this stretch of river.  Check out the video below to see what I mean.

Flow(Cfs): 400 cfs
